Tips and Tricks for getting the best New Bern rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Booking in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 4 bedroom, 2 bath home with 3 porches, & steps from the beach in Atlantic Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
