Tricks and tips for getting the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To find the largest rental within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the best rental:
- Start by having your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Amazing Ocean Front Cottage on the Crystal Coast has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a great stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
