Getting the best rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, change your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Planning and choosing a perfectrental:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Atlantic Beach Getaway has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
