Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Beaufort. Booking your New Bern vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the New Bern area:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Sound Front Home with Dock (Downeast Retreat) has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If not, email or call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
