Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Finding the perfect rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Emerald Isle Vacation Home: Walk to Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
