Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose and book the perfectvacation home:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Get Away From It All @ St. Somewhere! Enjoy a recently enlarged patio! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. text the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
