Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by having your family select date ranges and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. HOT DEAL! REDUCED RATE ON THIS NEWLY UPDATED CONDO! NEW PICS COMING SOON! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
