Strategies to get the optimal rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To find the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Nina Street House, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular New Bern beach you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
