How to find the best rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning and choosing the rightvacation home:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 3BR- Dogs OK- Ocean Front - Master Suite has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
