Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:
When to reserve a New Bern rental & When to go:
- To find the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group select dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Sound Escape, Sound Side Studio Condo in Emerald Isle has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
