Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing and booking a perfect New Bern vacation home:

  • Start by having your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Surf Capsule suite - coastal retreat in iconic Atlantic Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
