Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Three Buoys - Oceanview with Private Pool has 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Call the host right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
