Tips and Tricks to get the very best New Bern vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. updated fabulous family cottage. large deck.. on the ocean. great beach access has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
