Tricks and tips to get the optimal New Bern vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the right New Bern rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Why Knot Getaway. Emerald Isle Oasis has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
