Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book the perfect New Bern vacation home:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. 4BR w\/ Private Pool! 2nd Row to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
