Tricks and tips to get the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in Atlantic Beach. Book your New Bern rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking yourrental home:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. 3rd-Floor Condo Overlooking Courtyard w\/Beach Views, WiFi, Shared Pools\/Hot Tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
