Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. Reserve your New Bern rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Adorable 4 Bedroom Home with a Pool and a short walk to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
