Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 4BR Ocean Front - King MBR with Views! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
