Our top New Bern vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, shift your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your family choose trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Aloha Kai, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
