- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
