Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose the right New Bern rental:

  • First, have your family choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Cozy Bear Bungalow has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
