Tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental in Emerald Isle:
- Start by having your family select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. AMAZING VIEWS!! Beachfront Home-10 bedrooms-at The Point and a private POOL! has 10 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
