Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing the perfect rental in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Amenities GALORE! Private pool, hot tub, elevator and MORE! has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
