Tips and Tricks for getting the best New Bern rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Atlantic Sea Oats, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your family.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you crave, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
