Rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Beach Front Condo With Wonderful Ocean View has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
