Tips to get the very best New Bern rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Beaufort. To book the largest rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking your New Bern rental:

  • Start by having your group decide on a vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spectacular Sunrises over the Waters of North River has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
