Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
When to reserve a New Bern rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Finding the best rental home in the New Bern area:
- To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beach Parking & Walk to Sound Pier & No Stairs! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
