Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Atlantic Beach. Book your New Bern rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

How to select the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. 203 C-Sea Lookout: 4 BR, 3 BA Condominium in Atlantic Beach, Sleeps 10 has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If not, email the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
