Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Bogue's Retreat, Oceanview House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
