Rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Great Reviews! Early Check-in with no wait! Book fall fishing & summer vacation! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
