Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Atlantic Beach rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Charming 3-bedroom house located in the heart of downtown Salter Path has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a specific New Bern beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
