Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summertime is high season in Atlantic Beach. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the perfect rental home:
- Select dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Coastal Casa-Sound Front Home in Atlantic Beach, NC has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
