Our top Emerald Isle vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book your prefectvacation home:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Cozy family cottage, just steps from the sea and close to everything.\n has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
