Tips to get the perfect New Bern rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, try changing your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the New Bern area:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Historic Corner Cottage - newly renovated kitchen, bathroom & bedroom floors has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
