Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the best vacation rental:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Family & Dog Friendly Oceanfront has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
