Rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer is high season in the New Bern area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick your prefect New Bern rental home:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Golf cart, kayaks, paddle board & launch. Pet friendly. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
