How to get the best Beaufort vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Front St. Waterfront Cottage with Private Dock, Views, Walk to historic town has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
