Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking yourrental:

  • Choose dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Historic Alston-Charlotte Cottage in Downtown New Bern! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
