Getting the best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, shift your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Choosing the perfect rental in the New Bern area:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Queens Court 1204, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, call the host before booking the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
