Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking yourvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Just a Fluke - Ocean cottage 2nd row has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you crave, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
