Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer time is high season in Emerald Isle. Booking your New Bern vacation home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dancing Barefoot- Cozy Beach Getaway- 4th Row House with Ocean View has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- If there's an individual New Bern destination you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
