Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose your dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Knot A Care, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
