Rental home booking tips:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the perfect rental in the New Bern area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Island Dreams, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
