How to find the best New Bern vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by having your family choose dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. License to Chill, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual New Bern beach you long to visit, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
