Strategies to get the perfect New Bern rental home experience:
When to book a New Bern rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Magnolia Moon, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 12 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's an individual New Bern attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
