Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Moonlight Suite 198* has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
