Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.

How to choose and book the best New Bern vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Bloom Where You Are Planted Tiny House has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
