Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Some things to know before you go:

- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
