Tips to get the best New Bern vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your family select the best dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. 3 BR, 2 Bath home in Emerald Isle! Golf cart, beach chairs & Shibumi included! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
