Tips and Tricks for getting the best Emerald Isle rental experience:

When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a Emerald Isle rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Surfari, beautiful home on the Crystal Coast has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
