Strategies to get the perfect Emerald Isle vacation home experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Surfari, beautiful home on the Crystal Coast has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
