Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the largest rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best rental in the New Bern area:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Surfari, beautiful home on the Crystal Coast has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
